September 15, 2010 the DOJ published the revised regulation for Title II and Tile III of the ADA of 1990. These regulations adopted revised the enforceable accessibility standards called the “2010 ADA Standard for Accessible Design”.
This standard sets minimum requirements for scoping and technical requirements for newly design and constructed or altered State and local government facilities, public accommodations and commercial facilities to be readily accessible to and usable by individuals with disabilities. This training will focus on how these standards are applicable to the accessibility to the playground and usability of playground equipment by individuals with disabilities. Some of the items we will discuss include Accessible Routes, Cross Slope, Running Slope, Ramps, Transfer Platforms, Play equipment, Elevated Play Components, Ground Level Play Components and Accessible Surfacing Materials.
