The rapid advancement of AI is transforming many sectors of the economy—and local government is no exception. Local governments are already adopting AI tools for a wide range of uses, from automating routine tasks to modeling complex infrastructure systems. For local governments, AI holds tremendous promise for improving efficiency, reducing costs, harnessing data, and enhancing the quality of public services.
At the same time, AI raises new questions about employee and organizational accountability, copyright infringement, data privacy, cybersecurity, bias, and transparency, and introduces other new risks—probably even some that only AI could help us identify! Therefore, it’s important to understand both the opportunities and risks associated with AI. In this seminar for CIRSA members, we’ll explore the fast-growing role of AI in local government, highlight key legal and risk management issues, and offer practical guidance that can help you and your organization embrace the benefits of AI technologies while reducing your liability exposure and ensuring public trust.
- Depending on the distance traveled, CIRSA offers a Travel Reimbursement Program, that can cover the cost of meals, mileage, and lodging, to encourage member attendance at CIRSA-hosted events. For more information about the event, contact saml@cirsa.org or nickc@cirsa.org.
