Local governments are already adopting AI tools for a wide range of uses\, from automating routine tasks to modeling complex infrastructure systems. For local governments\, AI holds tremendous promise for improving efficiency\, reducing costs\, harnessing data\, and enhancing the quality of public services. \nAt the same time\, AI raises new questions about employee and organizational accountability\, copyright infringement\, data privacy\, cybersecurity\, bias\, and transparency\, and introduces other new risks—probably even some that only AI could help us identify! Therefore\, it’s important to understand both the opportunities and risks associated with AI.
