First Responder/Hazmat Awareness Seminar (Denver)

This seminar provides a foundational understanding of how to recognize and safely respond to a potential hazardous materials incident. Designed for non-professional responders and municipal staff, the training is ideal for employees who, as part of their daily responsibilities, may encounter unknown or potentially dangerous substances—such as spills, leaks, overturned containers, or suspicious materials. Participants will learn how to assess situations from a safe distance, protect themselves and others, and take appropriate initial actions without engaging in technical response activities. Emphasis is placed on practical, real-world application, including hands-on guidance for effectively using the Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG) during a suspected HAZMAT event.
This awareness-level course is NOT intended to train students as HAZMAT Technicians, Operators, Specialists, or Incident Commanders, and it does NOT meet HAZWOPER requirements. Instead, it equips participants with essential knowledge to recognize hazards, make informed decisions, and initiate proper notifications—helping reduce risk and improve safety until trained responders arrive.
