Sam Light Offers Training for Elected Officials & Much More
We’re excited to introduce you to a new member of our team—Sam Light! Sam joined CIRSA in September 2018 as General Counsel. He brings over 20 years of municipal law experience and has already proven to be a tremendous asset to the CIRSA organization.
Sam’s love for the outdoors led him to Colorado to pursue his undergraduate degree in journalism. After he completed law school in Oregon at Lewis and Clark Law School, he moved back to Colorado where he practiced water, real estate and municipal law for two small firms in Glenwood Springs. He continued on to practice municipal, public entity and public insurance law with Light Kelly, P.C. of Denver. Sam also served as general or special counsel to a number of municipalities and other public organizations throughout Colorado, including other public entity insurance pools. “Colorado is a great place to live in large part because of its great cities and towns,” said Sam.
At CIRSA, Sam assists members in addressing their liability and risk management needs. He helps leadership teams and employees manage and understand legal and risk management aspects of their particular programs and operations. Sam also conducts trainings for elected and appointed officials on the complex legal and municipal guidelines affecting their municipalities. This is the friendly voice you hear at the other end of our liability hotline.
He shares in members’ passion for making a difference and improving their communities. “I am always in awe of the commitment and effort our members’ officials, employees and volunteers make on behalf of their community,” Sam said. “We have a shared commitment and partnership with members to support their communities’ risk management needs and provide services and programs that help them reach their goals—that’s what Safer Together means to me.”
Sam loves spending time with his wife, Jessie, an artist, and their four children. He also enjoys hiking, skiing and traveling.
Sam will be speaking at the CIRSA General Membership Meeting and the annual CML conference in June in Breckenridge. If you’d like to have Sam speak to your elected officials or staff or have any questions, please contact him directly at firstname.lastname@example.org or 720-605-8002.
